Board Supervisor Election and Ballot Information

We have an upcoming election for Board Supervisor at HCSWCD and residents across Hancock County are eligible to vote.

We have one person running for the position of Supervisor for the Hancock County Soil and Water Conservation District.

  • Supervisors are volunteers who oversee the various programs administered by the District.

  • Terms run from January 2025 to December 2027.

  • Supervisors currently in office are Mark Whiting (Chair), Erin Witham (V. Chair),  Jennifer Riefler (Secretary), Ant Blasio (Treasurer), and Andrew Sankey.

HCSWCD Board Supervisor and Secretary Jennifer Reifler’s term expires in December and she will be taking an Associate Supervisor position beginning in January, 2025.

David DePrez will be running for the soon-to-be vacant Board Supervisor position. David moved to Orland in 2018 with his wife Adina, following a career in secondary science education in Oregon, California, and Illinois. As a science department chair, he developed curriculum and taught AP Biology, Chemistry, and AP Environmental Science. David also created two integrated science programs for freshmen focusing on energy, water, and environmental systems. Currently, he serves on the Orland Select Board committees for watershed, resilience, and broadband. David participates in the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardener’s Association, working on apple tree grafting projects. He and his wife reside in the Narramissic/Orland watershed in their historic Greek Revival home built in 1820.

 Timetable:

-Ballots can be mailed out until Monday December 2nd, 2024

-Ballots are due back to our office by December 6th, 2024 at 12:00pm via mail or in person

Office hours:

-Mon 9-2, Wed 8-1, Fri 9-2

-Election Week (Dec 1-7), the same as above plus Thursday 9-2

-We are located at 474 Bucksport Road in Ellsworth.

-All ballots must be accompanied by a Voter Certification form to confirm the voter is a resident of Hancock County. There are provided along with self-addressed return envelopes when a voter requests a ballot.
